Welcome, DECA enthusiasts! As you gear up for MHHS Mini Comp, mastering the art of role-play presentations is crucial for your success. To help you shine in the competition room, here's a comprehensive role-play template and a set of invaluable tips and tricks.
Role-Play Presentation Outline
1. Your Introduction (30 Seconds)
Begin with a firm handshake, a warm smile, and eye contact
Introduce yourself, stating your name, position from the case study, and the purpose of your presentation.
Maintain proper posture (back straight) and keep your hands on the desk, not in your lap.
2. Roadmap (30 Seconds)
You need to provide an overview of your presentation topics to prepare the judge.
List the performance indicators (you will have 5-7) in order, with exact wording, and explain their relevance to the given case study.
Mention that you'll present your solution after discussing the PIs.
3. Performance Indicators (2 - 3 minutes)
Address the PIs in the order given in the case study. (Use D.E.C.A)
D: Define the PI, and any terminology mentioned
E: Explain the PI in relation to the problem.
C: Connect the PI to your solution
A: Advanced, add something extra to make your solution stand out (Props, catchy slogans, etc.)
There's no need to use D.E.C.A with each PI, but definitely use it when you have a complex or important PI relating to your solution.
4. Solution (2 minutes)
Present your solution backed by the relevant PIs.
Justify why your solution is the best for the company.
It is really important to have a name/slogan/clear plan to crystalize your solution to the judge; they will be judging your solution step in their rubric.
5. Summary (1.5 minutes)
Recap the key PIs.
Summarize the highlights of your proposed solution.
6. Ending Notes (1.5 minutes)
Leave extra time for the judge to ask you questions. They are required to ask you at least one. (Judges grade your answer to their question, so give a clear and concise answer)
Thank the judge for their time.
Conclude professionally, expressing hope that your proposed solution will benefit their company.
End with a final handshake and remember to push in your chair.
That's it for today. Be sure to be more confident with your next DECA Roleplay!
Best,
